The Cascadia Activism and Ecology Conference will be held on April 5th-8th 2001 and is being sponsored by the Environmental Resource Center and numerous other student groups at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. The conference will be comprised of panel discussions, keynote speakers, workshops and discussion groups that will create a forum for environmental scientists, activists and community members to network for the development of forest protection campaigns in the Cascadia bioregion.

Inspiration for this conference was drawn from the interdisciplinary philosophy of Evergreen’s environmental science and policy programs, and such models as the now famous Public Interest Environmental Law Conference, Western Forests Conference, Applegate Partnership, and Highlander Institute.

To honor diversity in the environmental movement, many aspects of natural resource protection campaigns will be represented. The reason for this broad representation is to foster relationships between activists, scientists, policy makers and non-governmental organizations (NGO’s.) As a participant or presenter you will have the opportunity to discuss the history, practice and future of organizing around environmental and social justice issues with the prominent doers and thinkers of forest protection.

The Cascadia bioregion includes all of temperate North America west of the Cascade and Coast Mountain ranges. We hope to attract a diverse group of participants from the regional community including workers, students, professionals or anyone interested in natural resource issues. The Environmental Resource Center is consistently working toward the sustainability of the Cascadia community and for the conservation and restoration of its natural resources.
