Santa Cruz quiet during FTAA actions

Santa Cruz has been quite during the FTAA protestes. Santa Cruz, a normally politically progressive communittee is uncharactaristically quiet during this weekend. Where are you Santa Cruz?
There wasn't an organized protest here, but several people I know from the University of California here, went to Quebec, San Diego or San Francisco.

Also, today and yesterday there was a strike by technical employees (http://ucsc.upte.org) against continued bad-faith bargaining practices by UCSC administration.

Today was an open house event for prospective students, so the strike was cleverly timed.

The IWW local (all 5 of them) are providing a local server for the Indymedia site.

And I'm staying here to devote more time to the class struggle (homework, that is).

In Solidarity,

Also, yesterday was 4/20, so all the hippies were too stoned to go to any protests.

And that's what it's like ... even though Santa Cruz is as progressive as The City, most of the youth are hippies and aren't into activism.

UCSC really is the Island of the Lotus-Eaters.
