Oil for Food
The injustice of the oil for food program in Iraq
Oil for Food
“4000 more children under five are dying every month in Iraq than would have died before Western sanctions were imposed. Over the 11 years that these sanctions have been in place, 500,000 extra children under five are estimated to have died.” United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF. Why does Denis Halliday, Former UN Assistant Secretary General 34 yrs service, Hans Van Sponeck, Top UN humanitarian official 30yrs, Jutta Parghart, head of World Food Program in Iraq, 15yrs all resign in protest to sanctions in Iraq? Because as Denis puts it, “We are in the process of destroying an entire society. It is as simple and terrifying as that. It is illegal and immoral."
America you make me sick, I am ashamed to be an american. To those pundits who may tell me to leave or call me a coward. I say this: I am a gulf war veteran who saw first hand the destruction of vital infrastructure including water treatment plants, from the convenience of my ship. Infrastructure in Iraq is still in ruins, chemicals needed to make clean water are sanctioned. America wake Up, Protest this new War!
