OR. Department.of Forestry Abandons Closure
On Sunday, October 28, 2001, people arriving to supply and support the on going tree sit at the Acey Thin timber sale at the Oregon coast were surprised to find the Oregon Department of Forestry no longer on site. 5 1/2 minutes
Expecting to be facing arrests in order to supply tree sits at the number four area of the Acey Thin timber sale, a magnificent patch of natually regenerated forest known to the locals as Gods Valley, everyone was surprised to find the Oregon Department of Forestry no longer at the site.
A different scene than three weeks previous, with three arrests one day, and sixteen the next, along with the hospitalization of Tre Arrow, who sustained major injuries in his attempt to prevent further logging at the number 2 area of the Acey Thin timber sale.
After discussion about the meaning of this new development and conjectures about the possibility of being ambushed by law enforcement after crossing the line, the group of about 50 people crossed into the closure area and walked up the road towards the tree sit.
In the front of the parade was Tre Arrow, still in a wheel chair since his fall from a tree on October 6th. Following a prayer and talking circle, supplies and good cheer were carried up the trail to the tree sit. In order to minimize damage to the area, only a small group, including members of the local community media, walked the fragile trail.
