Foundations & Publishing
U.S. Military/Industrial/Foundation/Media Complex also subsidizes "alternative" book publishers.
The U.S. Military/Industrial/Foundation/Media Complex has been subsidizing certain "alternative" middle-class left-liberal publishing businesses since the 1990s. According to the January 2000 issue of Current Biography, for instance, Andre Schiffrin's New Press "alternative" academic publishing business "was financed by more than a dozen foundations...among them the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts."
Sitting on the board of directors of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in recent years have been David Rockefeller Jr., David Rockefeller Sr., Laurance Spelman Rockefeller, Abby Milton Rockefeller O'Neill, Richard Gilder Rockefeller and Steven Clark Rockefeller. The Rockefeller Brothers Fund board has also recently included a Philip Morris director, a Time Warner director, a Pacific Property Services director, a Rockefeller Group Inc. chairman, an Idex Corporation director, a Scudds Global/Interest Fund director, a MacArthur Foundation president, a PBS board member, a Pitney Bowes director and a Rockefeller Financial Services director.
One way for the U.S. anti-war movement to politically resist more effectively the undemocratic actions of the U.S. Military/Industrial/Foundation/Media Complex would be for it to demand that all the assets of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund be immediately redistributed directly to U.S. working-class people who are opposed to 21st-century U.S. militarism.
