Rally: FREE PALESTINE! FREE SPEECH!

Rally and Speak Out in defense of free speech in Berkeley, and human rights in Palestine. As Israeli occupation forces continue to commit war crimes against the Palestinian people every day, the University of California invests $6 billion dollars in the Israeli occupation of Palestine and Israeli apartheid system. Students for Justice in Palestine, which has been consistently calling for the University of California to divest from the state of Israel, was suspended by the UC Berkeley administration this past week for organizing the April 9 protests in which 1100 students, faculty, and community members came out in commemoration of the 1948 Deir Yassin massacre, and 79 people took arrest for staging a sit-in at Wheeler Hall. The UC administration wrote to SJP: "pending the investigation of this complaint, your organization's student group privileges are hereby suspended. These privileges include (but are not limited to) reserving facilities, holding or advertising activities on campus, or tabling on Sproul Plaza." The university is also threatening year-long suspension for students engaged in peaceful protest. We will not be silenced! Students for Justice in Palestine challenges the UC administration's clampdown on freedom of speech as invalid and refuses to abide by the administration's edict. We will continue to organize, to struggle, and to exercise our democratic right to challenge this university's complicity in ethnic cleansing. Join us on May 2 as we continue in the struggle for justice in Palestine.
