The SHORTWAVE REPORT 6/28/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A 30 minute review of international news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.5MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. China, Spain. Germany, Russia, and Cuba
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (June 28) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.5MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:29) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked recently)
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Spanish National Radio, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From China- 10,000 activists protested the World Bank policies in Oslo, Norway. While the G-8 Summit is underway in Canada, a counter summit for the poor is underway in Mali Africa. Yassar Arafat said he will never surrender as demanded by Geo W Bush, and Tony Blair and the PM of Canada said the US should not interfere with Palestine’s elections.
From Spain- 6 stories, the first three concern Bush’s policy toward Palestine, which was well received by Israel while being questioned or condemned by nearly everyone else on the planet. In Argentina, protests turned the most violent since December, where one in four workers protests daily. FARC rebels in Columbia have extended their threats to include all mayors and judges in the country. Cuba’s reaction to Bush’s dictates about political reform has resulted in 98% of citizens signing on to a reformed version of a one-party workers state.
From Germany- the remaining white farmers in Zimbabwe have 45 days to abandon their farms, but many are staying. Then a story on the affect the so-called War on Terror is having on press freedom in the U.S.
From Russia- the US congress has passed a bill prohibiting any cooperation with the International Criminal Court, which begins work July 1st. Then a commentary on the Palestinian restructuring dictated by Geo Bush.
From Cuba- RHC has continued to have serious transmission problems. Here’s one story that sounded relatively okay- a US Senate committee is going to review all US military chemical and biological weapons testing programs after getting little information from the Pentagon.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
