The SHORTWAVE REPORT 7/19/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.5MB) and quick download (3.4MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Germany, Cuba, Russia, China, and Spain.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (July 19) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.5MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:39) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked recently)
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Havana Cuba, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, and Spanish National Radio.
From Netherlands- the European money named the Euro is now equal in value to the US dollar; the new American system of spying on your neighbors, called TIPS, amazes the world which thought Americans were protected by a Constitution and Bill of Rights.
From Germany- Germany’s highest court has ruled in favor of protecting same-sex marriages. Then, from the weekly show Man & Environment, a report on the upcoming transport of thousands of tons of radioactive material in the US.
From Cuba- the UN’s second Earth Summit will begin next month in Johannesburg, in the wake of dire warnings from environmental groups. At mideast talks at the UN in NY, G Bush’s call for the removal of Arafat have been strongly criticized.
From Russia- Russia considers Palestinian President Arafat a legitimate leader and negotiator. Russian and British defense ministers oppose the use of military force against Iraq, as threatened by the US.
From China- Saddam Hussein has told the people of Iraq to prepare for attacks by the US. The Turkish Prime Minister has reiterated Turkey’s opposition to new USattacks against Iraq. Pakistan is preparing a large-scale series of war games in response to India’s troops along the borders.
From Spain- Paraguay has seen deadly riots against the ruling party; Columbia will raise taxes to fund the war against Marxist rebels; Peru and Ecuador have experienced freak cold weather and are requesting international aid; Honduras has declared a national emergency because of an outbreak of dengua fever.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
