• November 7th Oakland Protest Against Taft-Hartley Injunction
The Coalition for Workers' Rights called a march & rallies for November 7th, to protest the Taft-Hartley injunction against the dockworkers, and unconscionable delays and anti-worker attitudes in negotiations for workers at the Oakland Tribune and City of Oakland.
The Coalition for Workers' Rights is made up of the ILWU Locals 10 and 34, SEIU 790, No CA Media Workers, Teamsters 70, Central Labor Council, and many community supporters. All these groups are supporting each other in labor struggles.
The march traveled around downtown Oakland stopping for rallies at the offices involved.
This march was do connect the dots of the various workers struggles. All the unions involved are working without a contract. Oakland workers will take strike vote on Nov. 18. Throughout the speeches, attention was drawn to the 1946 strike that shut down Oakland.
This was a spirited event, drawing a diverse group of people, young and old, and of every color. At the peak in front of city hall, there were probably at least 500.
There was almost no police presence. At times city workers in city vehicles honked in solidarity.

The theme of our march was "Fight Corporate Greed," which is the basis of unity among all of us - whether it is the City/Port or UC or PMA or ANG newspapers proposing cuts in pay/healthcare to their workers, or whether its the butchering of redwoods and use of sweatshop labor by the GAP; this is one of the first labor/community efforts to bring us together. Like our speakers say, " we need to do this in every city in the nation."
Even the Oakland Tribune (where we protested 'em) had an article on it :)
