SSU Students Walk Out
Students from Sonoma State University join the masses of discontented students across the US while walking out of class baring the banner of Books not Bombs
On Wednesday March 5, 2003 at 11:30 students from Sonoma State University walked out of their classes, in protest of the rising military budget, and the decreasing educational budgets. After marching around campus students gathered in the Mario Savio Free Speech Area, to listen to professors explain impacts that the War on Terrorism (AKA war on Iraq) is having on their education.
Students Statewide are looking at their fees raising another 25% next year (about $400) while services in which have been provided in the past will be cut. Part time Facility at SSU started to receive notices this week that they will not be invited back next year to impart their knowledge. Students came to SSU because of the small class sizes and high faculty to student ratio. Students where shocked at some of this news.
The afternoon ended with students performing calls for peace through spoken word and singing.
