National boycott called for
Citizen calls for television boycott to stop the war and focus our nation on issues of peace and social justice that will create a safer world for generations to follow.
A citizen in Saratoga Springs, NY is putting out a national call to begin boycotting television. He encourages individuals and groups across the country to begin on Tuesday the 18th. Suggested activities include any local activity that does not have a television with power supplied to it. A poetry reading, a live performance of music, a play, even a conversation over a cup of coffee are all qualifying activities. There is a rumor that buttons are being made with the graphic that appears at the bottom of this story, and will be used to identify the protest.
He encourages others to gather under this banner and let their numbers begin to be counted. If it is necessary to escalate this action to Thursday night programming details will be provided.
Explaining the motivation for the boycott the citizen replied that it struck him that most successful nonviolent movements in the past had a boycott and or a strike associated with them. He went further to say that this was only the beginning, and that once it spread and expanded to include products beyond advertising and misinformation the peace movement would be impossible to ignore.
