Roadblock

by Average American
Police hired by Major Corporation block observation of Freshwater tree sit evictions.
3-17-03

What an amazing day. No one was injured, three ground arrests and 2 sitters removed. (Channel 6 News).
The closure of the road was a particularly amazing act of magic accomplished on behalf of The Maxxam Corporation (SP?) of Houston, TX.
Concerned friends of humanity and earth gathered at a road block maintained by Humboldt Co. Sheriffs and C.H.P. The latter being of better mood and more willing to converse, if you didn't scream at them. None the less it appears as though an illegal road block may have taken place today. People of resource attempted to track down the legal order pertaining to public officers blocking the observation of the evictions. There was a reference to an "Encroachment Order". One person stated that a cell phone call to California Highway Dept. yielded nothing. Officers had the physical document on site, but its legitimacy was in question. Obviously, yet another huge blow to old fashion constitutional rights of the American individual, our freedom to travel through-out the land with out harassment. For the mass majority of the time "Independent Observers" were blocked from, you got it, observing. The road is closed this week for the evictions between the 8:00 Am and 4:00 pm. Of particular interest to me was dialogue that occurred between the police and people forming at the front of the road block. It was intensely emotional. And it seemed as though, there was an openness that could not be closed. I saw a young lady crack into the hearts of 4 individual uniform wearing men. Not all the police hearts were completely tainted; there was a flame within them that got fed. Officers were obviously well versed in stoic intimidation. But behind sunglasses they thought were too dark to see through, I saw eyes. I saw grown men squirm beneath the shear focus of will. Non violent penetration of the heart. I pray that they begin protecting the public interest and not Texas.

To my knowledge as of 3-17-03 5:30 P.M. No trees had been cut.

At least you are conscientious of your writing. I think you are on the wrong side, but the writing is readable, so it is more credible than the normal ranting seen here.

I think Wed. or Thurs. is going to be a really good day.

Yes those will both be good days. I won't have to bury Wren's or Remedy's poop!

i know you all are busy preparing for more sign holding protests and police hitting on breakaway anarchists but this is a major story being followed by national media and being misrepresented by the corporate media and not any notice from the sf-imcers. this san franciscan will be in the forest tomorrow morning up there so look for updates. I just talked to one well known EF! activist up there actions are continuing and the trees evicted have been re-occupied even though PL killed one tree by girthing it today. besides, the Shi'a are preparing to fight the americans as soon as Saddam is gone, y'all missed that news, check irna.org for updates on Syrian and Iranian behind the scenes actions, remember israel and hezbollah, well here it goes again... okay i am rambling.

anyway, how about a little attention to the biggest story in northern california?

All environmentalist are the same. You spew the same bull shit that at times I wonder how many heads this serpant has? You talk about the money leaving Humboldt going to Texas, every time you walk into burger king or McDonalds, do you think the money stays in Humboldt? When you buy the mercedes or the BMW's, do you think the money stays in Humboldt. Environmentalist don't give a dam'n about the redwoods. As long as you get your 15 min. of fame on tv is all that you are worried about. tell me, those platforms that these treesitters stand on, what are they made of? The more you people talk the more creditability you lose. It's best if you all would SHUT UP!

Who?
All environmentalist are the same.
In the sense that they live on the same planet, I would agree. But hopefully you’re an environmentalist, and don’t “shit in your pool” when you are aware that you’re doing it.
First of all sir, I would like to say that I am not an environmentalist per say. I am a youth of 27 years, who has spent 3 of those volunteering as a fire fighter, another 650 logged hours with the American Red Cross, and an additional 3 years with wilderness search and rescue, as an officer of rank (A.S.A.R.). I have been on the scene or provided medical support as a licensed E.M.T./Firefighter to a few of the most recent year’s national fire activity. I could probably apply for a climber job and get it. I am concerned with growing knowledge that current logging practices are removing old trees that provide fire barriers, leaving highly flammable fuel to incinerate wildland Fire Fighters and property. There were some very large fires in the past few years, some of which were designated by Clinton and F.E.M.A. as national emergencies. Many of which resulted in loss of fire suppression personal being injured and burned to death. This is just one of many aspects that this type of practice is creating. Not to mention, flooding, erosion, loss of habitat for animals, false future for employees involved in logging and that ancient red woods are considered to be a natural wonder of the world. I’m unclear on why those types of trees are the one’s that are chosen to be logged, other then there obvious size probably equates to more dollars.

You spew the same bull shit that at times I wonder how many heads this serpant has?
Many, prays be to God, this Sun has many rays.

You talk about the money leaving Humboldt going to Texas, every time you walk into burger king or McDonalds, do you think the money stays in Humboldt?

I don’t think many here would argue with you.

When you buy the mercedes or the BMW's,

I’m lower middle class and unable to maintain an operating, registered, insured vehicle in the state of California, so I can not empathize with your statement.
do you think the money stays in Humboldt.
Nope, neither does the cash for the oil and gas.

Environmentalist don't give a dam'n about the redwoods.

Uh.

As long as you get your 15 min. of fame on tv is all that you are worried about.
Do you find them to be media flirts? Because I have some friends who want to hear more about this, and they don’t get the local news hear, they would love to know more. They just keep flicking that dial on the T.V. and nadda.

tell me, those platforms that these treesitters stand on, what are they made of?
I believe, but I’m not actually involved in any degree ( I’ve never sought out or constructed materials to build a sit) they use recycled lumber, pallets, old U.S.B., ply wood, dead fall and netting made of rope.

The more you people talk the more creditability you lose. It's best if you all would SHUT UP!
Unfortunately your so angry because I struggle to understand your side. Please don’t shut up, speak your mind sir, And on the process may no one hire police to pepper spray you , or roadblock me from documenting it.
God Bless

This isn't a hard problem to solve. To get the loonies out of the trees, just arrest anyone who tries to supply them with food and water. Girdle the tree so they realize their particular quest is futile. Use a helicopter to do a water dump on them, particularly if it's a windy day.

Do they even know that increasing capitalization has actually increased the forestry acreage over the last two decades, compared to what happened during the first two centuries of US growth? Probably not -- "I see this tree, and I like it". Cool. Just get ready for a water bath in a windy tree, that's all. Watch out for bulldozers too.

increasing acreage does not necessarily mean all that much....the point is that its important to save old-growth trees because they are an established habitat....new acreage could mean that there are just a bunch of young trees...which will make good forests later...but what about now?

every morning I wake up I wonder if today is the last day of my time on this earth , and I often must remind myself that to ensure that my lifetime here lasts as long as possible I must save as much other life here on earth with me , now that includes anything alive , even a columbia employee like you , now you may not like the "loonies" as you call them , but we love you and every other brother and sister out there , your helicopters and bulldozers could do nothing to us that we haven't in one way or another experienced from nature itself. My job is to save life in any way at any cost , your job is to do your job (whatever your boss tells you to do) , you do your job to recieve a paycheckmakin you a servicer or as otherwise known slave so to speak , i do my job from the heart with no returned favors or payment , now when you go to sleep tonight think back to when you were a kid and your teacher asked you what you wanna be when you grow up??? Did you reply a slave?? Maybe you should have because you are one and will always be one as long as you seek to gain from destruction of life.

The circle of life never reffered to genocide to make room for new growth , I thought growing old was an adventure , but if all i have to look forward to is being killed to make room for the next generation , then kill me now for i have so much more to learn and I have so little time of gettin old to teach it all.

Funny, I don't feel like a slave.

I have a DV500 pro DV camcorder and would like to help out the anti-logging movement with documentation. All I need is for somebody to set me up with a safe place to sleep overnight (or two) during the time an action is taking place. I am able to provide my own transportation and meal expenses to and from any area located in Northern CA. Right now I am in Berkeley, CA.

I will give a copy of the tape to anybody in the movement who requests it. For more details and discussion, contact mpalmer [at] jps.net
