FSRN Statement of Support for SFLR

by SFLRNews (sflr_news"at"lists.mutualaid.org)
Free Speech Radio News Comes Out Against FCC and in Support of San Francisco LiberationRadio 93.7FM! You can, too! Come out this Thursday to City Hall's last public comment on this issue! Help fight media fascism!
To the San Francisco Board of Supervisors:

Pacifica Reporters Against Censorship would like to express its support for the resolution to protect media diversity and low power FM station San Francisco Liberation Radio.

Pacifica Reporters Against Censorship is the non-profit, worker-run collective that produces Free Speech Radio News. Free Speech Radio News is broadcast on over 50 community radio stations nationwide, as well as countless low power FM stations.

The Free Speech Radio News staff supports the work of San Francisco Liberation Radio 93.7 and other low power FM stations. SFLR provides local voices and perspectives that are being pushed out of the dominant media. Low power FM stations provide media diversity that is being jeopardized by the FCC’s loosening of media consolidation rules.

Low power FM stations provide media accessible to the public, enabling local voices to communicate with their communities about underrepresented issues. Pacifica Reporters Against Censorship believes that accessible media and freedom of speech are crucial to creating democracy.

Pacifica Reporters Against Censorship would also like to point out that San Francisco Liberation Radio has repeatedly applied for a license to broadcast and its request has repeatedly been denied.

Free Speech Radio News is broadcast on KPFA Radio 94.1 in San Francisco, and has never reported any interferance.

Pacifica Reporters Against Censorship urges the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to support the resolution to protect San Francisco Liberation Radio and media diversity.

Sincerely,

The Free Speech Radio News staff
