New College Theater, 777 Valencia St., S.F.

New College will host this year's Earth Charter Community Summit in San Francisco on Saturday, October 11 to raise awareness about the importance of this document and how to act on it. The Earth Charter is a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful society on a global scale for the 21st century. Our summit is one of hundreds that will be taking place all around the United States and will include 4-5 guest speakers in the morning, with a national hook-up from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., break for lunch and then two rounds of break-out sessions in the afternoon. We want to inspire dialogue and the format will be through guided discussions rather than presentations. These will enhance awareness and bring about the ideal of world citizenship by safeguarding fundamental human rights for every person on the planet to help build a sustainable world based in respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice and a culture of peace.
The afternoon will also include music and poetry.
