A discussion and Q&A with Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer and Dr. Angana Chatterji on the position of the Minorities in the world's largest democracy. With the political rise of Hindu nationalist forces and the gradual institutionalization of Hindu nationalism, Minorities in India are increasingly vulnerable and arguably disenfranchised, as demonstrated most starkly by the violence in Gujarat (2002), which left almost two thousand dead.
The insecurity of India's Minority community has critical ramifications for the condition of Indian democracy and secularism and the stability of the region. In light of the recent Mumbai blasts and elections in three Indian States where Hindu nationalists won with a majority, it is especially urgent to discuss the state of Indian Minorities and the implications for India's secular democracy.
Tickets are $10.00. Lunch/drinks included. Free babysitting.
