Patricia Ireland Becomes Senior Advisor to Equality Campaign: Will Attend

LOS ANGELES, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Patricia Ireland has become Senior
Advisor to the Equality Campaign, a grassroots activist organization and
DontAmend.com, a national advocacy network devoted to stopping anti-gay
constitutional amendments. Ireland will represent DontAmend.com, a project of the
Equality Campaign, at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing tomorrow on a proposed
amendment to the US Constitution to ban same-gender marriage. The March 23
hearing will be held in Room 325 of the Russell Building at 10:00 AM.

"Equal marriage rights will be one of the most explosive issues of the
2004 elections," said Ireland. "This is also an incredible opportunity to make
a quantum leap forward, and for me, it's an opportunity not to be missed."

"As a political strategist, grassroots organizer, and media-savvy lawyer,
Patricia brings unparalleled resources to help the Equality Campaign reach
out to a broad audience, to educate and mobilize people on equal marriage rights
for lesbians and gays," said Robin Tyler, Executive Director of the Equality
Campaign.

"Patricia is a terrific addition to the team," says John Aravosis,
co-founder and National Co-Chair of DontAmend.com and creator of DearMary.com, also
a project of the Equality Campaign. "She's a politically knowledgeable
hard-hitter who's going to make a world of difference on this issue."

Ireland is the longest-serving president of the National Organization for
Women, completing a decade in that role before stepping down in 2001 as a
result of the organization's term limits. Most recently, Ireland was campaign
manager for Carol Moseley Braun's bid for the Democratic nomination for
president.

Tyler is a one of the plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed by attorney Gloria
Allred against the County of Los Angeles for the County's discrimination against
same-gender couples seeking marriage licenses.

DontAmend.com initiated the first nationwide day of protests for equal
marriage rights on February 14th of this year, and is organizing coordinated
pickets at local post offices across America on tax day, April 15, to protest
"taxation with discrimination" against lesbian and gay couples.

Ireland will be available for comment before and after the hearing
tomorrow.
