Equal Freedom OR Equal Nonfreedom?

by SaveFreedom @ yahoogroups.com (sfBarea [at] yahoogroups.com)
Oregon's Benton County wants to start issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, as Multnomah County does. Unable to do so, county commissioners create The Benton County Principle:
"Equal freedom for all, or equal NONfreedom for all."
OREGON:

Benton County commissioners had hoped to begin issuing same-sex marriage licenses soon. Until Oregon's attorney general threatened them. So, instead, they're adopting a more extreme tactic.

"Benton County stops all marriage licensing," report Mark Larabee and Jeff Mapes in The Oregonian, March 23. County commissioners have decided "to stop issuing marriage licenses to anyone -- even heterosexual couples -- until the Oregon Supreme Court rules on whether gay marriages in Oregon are legal."

[Note by SaveFreedom: When The Oregonian says "heterosexual" couples, they mean couples composed of one man and one woman -- regardless of whether these individuals may be bisexual, heterosexual, whatever. Such couples would more accurately be called "male/female couples", or "different-sex couples" (as contrasted with "same-sex couples".]

"That treats everybody equally," said Benton County Commissioner Jay Dixon. "It was a question of
treating everyone the same. It won't hurt anybody. They can still get licenses in other counties."

So now we see The Benton County Principle:
"Equal freedom for all, or equal NONfreedom for all."
