Marriage Equality California and Equality California Commend U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi for Supporting Marriage Equality and Mayor Gavin Newsom's Actions

Equality California (EQCA) and Marriage Equality California (MECA)
commend Minority Leader and U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi's public
support of full marriage equality for same-sex couples in comments she
made earlier today on Fox News. In that same forum, the Congress woman
also endorsed Gavin Newsom's decision to end discriminatory issuance of
marriage licenses in San Francisco.

"We applaud Congress woman Pelosi's vision, leadership and courage in
opposing President Bush's discriminatory Marriage Amendment and
supporting full marriage equality, "said Geoff Kors, Executive Director
of EQCA. "She joins a growing list of our elected officials in
California who are taking a public stand on this important and timely
issue."

"We are very happy with Congress woman Peliosi's endorsement of full
equality and it is fitting that her comments come on the same day that
Coretta Scott King, widow of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. reiterated her
public support of marriage equality as a civil rights issue," said Molly
McKay, Executive Director of MECA. "We are heartened to see our
straight-allies step forward on our behalf and support the fundamental
right for all U.S. citizens to marry."
