Berkeley police: Oakland sisters may be accessories to 34-year-old murder

BERKELEY -- Twin sisters who were intimately associated with at least two Black Panthers suspected of killing Berkeley Police Officer Ronald Tsukamoto in 1970 were arrested Tuesday afternoon as suspected accessories to murder, sources said Wednesday.

Joy Hall and Joyce Gaskin, both 53 and of Oakland, surrendered Tuesday afternoon to the Berkeley Police Department, which operates out of a building named after the slain officer, said police spokesman Officer Joe Okies.

Sources said Hall works as a substitute teacher in the Berkeley Unified School District.

The two women were accompanied by lawyers after a judge issued a probable cause warrant for their arrests, Okies said. An accessory is some one who harbors, conceals or aids someone in a felony.

The two remain in the Berkeley City Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail each. They were unavailable for comment Wednesday.
