The janitors have reported discrimination, harassment, and unsafe working conditions. OneSource has failed to address janitor's concerns and continues to pile impossible - and unsafe - amounts of work on janitors around the city, including the Transamerica Pyramid.
These Are pictures from a picket that took place around noontime on January 20th 2005.
Text Of Another Flyer That Was Handed Out:
600 Montgomery Tenants
Dear Tenants:
We want to apologize for any inconvenience caused by our demonstration. Disrupting your activities is clearly not our intention. However, we have very important issues and concerns with OneSource Building Maintenance and their Building Supervisor, Gloria Fernandez which need to be addressed immediately.
In short, Gloria Fernandez has been verbally and physically abusing the workers without justification or provocation. Ms. Fernandez has been systematically abusing and harassing the workers to advance his personal agenda with OneSource at the expense of our members who work at 600 Montgomery.
As everyone knows, Ms. Fernandez was directly involved in the events that took place at the Building which caused the untimely death of one of our members in this Building. In spite of that she continues to engage in unfair and inhumane labor practices. Ms. Fernandez continues to harass and intimidate members by forcing them to perform excessive amounts of work. In addition, she verbally abuses the workers and punish them by moving them from their assigned stations or out of the Building if they express their concern with her attitude and unfair demands.
Fortunately, Ms. Fernandez's method of communicating with the workers is no longer effective or socially accepted. Her idea of an effective communication is getting the workers one on one when there are no witnesses around and verbally attack and intimidate them with termination and forced transfer threats if the worker does not agree to her abusive and unreasonable demands. We have learned that several employees at the Building are already affected Psychologically by the abusive attitude of Ms. Fernandez. The workers at the Building are struggling on a daily basis to cope with the amount of stress they are forced to work under by Ms. Fernandez. Currently the crew are working under a lot of stress and is just a matter of time before one of them gets seriously injured at work, or worse. Sadly, in this Building everyone knows for a fact it can definitely be worse. We believe it is just a matter of time before members of the crew are forced to seek professional medical treatment to help them cope with this very difficult situation.
Even though we have on several occasions approached OneSource with our concerns about Ms. Fernandez nothing has been done to correct the situation. Moreover, Ms. Fernandez continues to enjoy the support of OneSource and the Building Manager who is obviously more interested in saving the Property Owners money than providing the tenants with quality maintenance services and a peaceful work environment. We wonder if the Owners know that they are being short change by OneSource because it is well known in this building that when a worker goes out for a short leave that worker is never replaced by OneSource.
Nonetheless, we want to give OneSource another opportunity to remedy the situation and free the workers of this eminent threat by transferring Ms. Fernandez to another building. However, we want make it crystal clear to OneSource that this pattern of abuse will no longer be tolerated. We are prepared and determined to put an end to the abuse and harassment against the workers no matter the consequences.
Thanking you In advance for your understanding and support.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
