About LLACE

We serve the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities as a lending library and archives and as a site for cultural activities. Unique in the greater Sacramento area, we are an all-volunteer-run, donation-supported community organization with certified nonprofit status. We encourage users to join LLACE and to become Pride Preserver members.

Our Mission

We exist to celebrate our culture and to educate through:

* Sharing the stories of our people and community.
* Embracing the diversity of our community.
* Preserving and teaching our culture and community.
* Empowering by passing on our cultural heritage to future generations
* Building relationships with community organizations and businesses

The Library

* More than 10,000 books
* Recent and classic LGBT fiction, science fiction, mysteries, anthologies and erotica.
* History, sociology, coming out, parenting, relationships, biography, arts, health and HIV.
* Over 600 videotapes, audiotapes and CDs, comprising documentaries, news and movies.
* About 50 LGBT periodicals and local newspapers, some dating back to the 1950s.

The Archives
LLACE seeks to preserve materials donated by members of the community in order to document our history. A variety of documents, newsletters, programs, posters, flyers and other materials, along with t0shirts, buttons, art and postcards, chronicle the development of Sacramento-area LGBT organizations. Articles published in the Sacramento Bee and other newspapers and magazines will document societal attitudes for future generations. Local students' research papers and theses are also archived to aid present and future researchers.

Cultural and Educational Programs

* Displays, exhibits and information at LLACE
* Gay Pride and community events
* Sacramento's Second Saturday Art Walk open house

Pride Preserver Program

* Bimonthly Film Study Group
* Authors Series featuring guest appearances of noted LGBT authors
* Open Mike Night of poetry and music

Local History Projects
Making a Case for Community History-Sacramento (SACMACH) had as its first project "A Timeline of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Communities" displayed at the State Capitol for Gay Pride Month, 2002. LLACE will sponsor future exhibits of the history of the local LGBT community.
