California State Fair hearing - Animal Welfare Policies - rodeos and wild animal acts
get your letters into officials asap -- link to contact info below
Tuesday, 2/15/05
The State Fair Board's agenda for the 2/25 meeting finally appeared today on their website. Go to http://www.bigfun.org (note that the "Cowboy Teeter Totter" is STILL pictured on the webpage--bottom left). Scroll to bottom, click on Cal Expo. Then click on Public Meeting Notices in left column.
There are two meetings that day: full board at 8:30 a.m., followed by the "Agriculture and Marketing" subcommittee that meets at 10:30 a.m., discussing the animal issues.
Not too late to submit those support letters. Kari Johnson (Have Trunk Will Travel) just alerted all her people to send in support letters for elephant rides and the wild animal acts. Ugh. We need to counter those.
See http://www.indybay.org/news/2005/02/1719170.php for info on who to contact and what changes activists are requesting in the state's "Animal Welfare Handbook".
Holler with any questions. And do let me know if you plan to attend the hearing and/or speak. (Anyone interested has up to 3 minutes.)
