Tune In, Turn On, Take Action: Real Activism for Accountability in the Media

Co-presented by Film Arts Foundation, Media Alliance, and Action Coalition for Media Education (ACME)

Wednesday, May 18, 7–9 pm

A handful of media giants dominate our media system and the policymaking process that structures it, causing serious problems for our democracy and our wellbeing. Today more than ever, Big Media is not meeting our communities’ needs in helping people make informed decisions about public policies and their daily lives. So, what can be done about it? Bay Area groups such as Media Alliance, the Youth Media Council, and Code Pink are taking on corporate giants and successfully holding them accountable using a variety of strategies. From license renewal challenges and grassroots monitoring projects to lawsuits and street protests, these groups are leaders in a growing national movement for media accountability and media justice.

Join Jeff Perlstein of Media Alliance, Malkia Cyril of Youth Media Council, and Andrea Buffa of CodePink to examine these efforts and learn how Bay Area residents can get involved and take action.

$3–$10/Sliding scale for members and nonmembers.
