Keep On Calling Through MIDNIGHT! Bring home CA Nat'l Guard!

by Code Pink for Peace
Hello, friends of peace.

I just got back from a Sacramento visit today. We were getting more and more support for this resolution as the day wore on BUT WE STILL NEED YOU TO KEEP CALLING all assemby people who have not yet endorsed. The assembly is expected to adjourn for this session around midnight tonight, but could continue on through tomorrow.

Two new cosponsors include De la Torre and Yee.

BARBARA BOXER has also joined in calling to bring the National Guard Home!

This has a chance of passing so I really think that we need to keep on pushing!

In Pink Peace,
Hiraeth

From one organizer late last night:

hi folks - great news!!! we now have 13!!! co-authors
for AJR36 - the list follows. so if you are going to
make calls or send faxes tomorrow, you can skip them
(unless you want to send your appreciation while
making sure they vote BEFORE session ends - no matter
what!)

PLEASE come to Sacramento tomorrow if there is ANY way
- this is SOOOOOO vital. It is our LAST chance to get
this resolution thru until next year - we know how
many more lives will be lost by then. We don't know
what the political climate will be or further
disasters are in store for us.

The time is NOW to act - we need you at the very least
to show up for the press conference 10:30a.m. on the
west side of the capitol. And then at 11:00 also in
the assembly chambers - we need to FILL the chambers.

> Hello, fellow peace and social justice advocates.
>
> I'm a member of Code Pink Santa Cruz and SONG (Support Our National
> Guard). We've been working on legislation that calls on the governor to
> bring home our CA National Guard. Santa Cruz and other California cities
> have already passed a similar resolution.
>
> We have been able to introduce this resolution, co-sponsored by John
> Laird, into the assembly. However, the assembly is preparing to recess on
> Friday and won't convene again until January! This resolution is
> particularly timely and has a strong chance of getting support, but we
> need to get the word out! Please forward this to any and all of your
> email lists.
>
> Also, if you're interested in carpooling up to Sacramento tomorrow
> (Thursday), please email me at hiraeth (at) riseup.net. We will need to
> leave around 5:30 a.m. in order to make it to Sacramento on time.
>
> If you'd like to see a copy of the proposed resolution, please go to

> Thank you very much!

>> In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, there is a new
>> understanding of the need for our states' National
>> Guard to be home protecting its citizens from natural
>> disasters. Here in California, this is a campaign we
>> can win, but we need your help right away.
>>
>> Assemblywoman Loni Hancock's Resolution to Bring Home
>> our National Guard (AJR36) is now "In Committee"
>>
>> We have only two days to get it out on the floor and
>> passed by the full Assembly before they adjourn for
>> the year on Friday.
>>
>> Here's what you can do:
>>
>> 1) CALL State Assembly persons TODAY Wednesday (see
>> list of names & numbers below)
>> Ask to speak with the assembly person or Chief of
>> Staff. Tell them that we Californians need our
>> National Guard at home, protecting us from disasters
>> such as the one we are witnessing in New Orleans. Ask
>> them to vote "YES" on AJR36 and to help make sure this
>> vote takes place before adjournment
>>
>> 2) CALL Assembly member Cindy Montanez, chair of
>> the Rules Committee, at 916-319-2039 and urge her to
>> release AJR36 for a full vote. As Chair of the
>> committee, she has the authority to move this bill to
>> the floor.
>>
>> 3) COME to Sacramento Tomorrow, Thursday, 8a.m-noon
>> to Lobby and join our Press Conference. We need a
>> large, vibrant PINK presence! Here is our schedule:
>>
>> 8:00-10:00a.m. Speak out and lobby Assembly People
>>
>> 10:30a.m. Press Conference
>>
>> 11:00-noon Gather in Assembly Chambers & on capitol

>>
>> THANK YOU for all your help!
