Animal Cruelty Revealed at Foster Farms

by East Bay Animal Advocates (info [at] eastbayanimaladvocates.org)
East Bay Animal Advocates (EBAA), a San Francisco Bay Area-based animal advocacy organization, unveiled the findings of its cruelty investigation of Foster Farms, the largest poultry producer in the Western United States.

The group’s graphic documentation (available at http://www.fosterfacts.net) reveals systematic animal neglect at Foster Farms’ poultry operations. This year, EBAA asked for a tour of the company’s chicken farms. The tour request was denied.

EBAA conducted an investigation of Foster Farms' broiler (chicken meat) operations in Merced County, California's top broiler producing county and home of the company’s headquarters.

EBAA investigators rescued 39 sick and injured chickens. Following the investigative rescue, EBAA filed an animal cruelty complaint with Merced County Animal Control.

Each week Foster Farms slaughters five million chickens for human consumption.

In honor of September’s National Chicken Month, EBAA is calling on Foster Farms to discontinue its misleading Pure Honest to Goodness marketing campaign and improve conditions for its birds.

East Bay Animal Advocates is a non-profit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Exposing animal cruelty in modern agriculture is of utmost importance to EBAA. Through direct aid and education outreach, EBAA is dedicated to fighting and preventing animal abuse in California's agricultural industry and beyond.

This situation might seem hopeless. You may think, Well if the chickens are already slaughtered, we can't "raise them from the dead" so we might as welll just buy it. I'm afarid too many people have this thinking, which seems logical but in truth it's not. You see, if we all buy less meat(I'm not saying stop eating chicken completely) but if we buy LESS, at least 10,000 chickens will be saved per day. Foster Farms will have to stop throwing chickens in tiny spaces just to slaughter them. The animals will all be given more space, and less crowded areas to live in. These creatures have feelings, just like us. How would you like to be crowded in a cage with 20 other people with no proper food or air? So think about it, and make a change in your shopping list. Just rember, it takes one family at a time.

Sincerely,
