A little background on the Smittcamp's:
Earl Smittcamp, a prominent agribusiness leader, graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1939. Owner and operator of Wawona Orchards, he oversees the production and processing of fresh and frozen foods through a multimillion dollar regional business that leads the industry in development and distribution of fruit and fruit products.
The family is known to donate money to republicans causes and gives money to Fresno State to try to ease their conscience a little in a philanthropic way.

Who's operating on auto pilot? I don't think that I even have that option, but I'll check the manual. Oh wait, that's right I am not a machine like the Governator.

On a more serious note though - We are living in the real world right? Not some online, movie, or tv fantasy land where reality can be ignored and history can be rewrote like a bad movie script?
In reality total recall would have us thinking about the fact that the big corporations already tried to silence working people in the form of Prop. 226 and it got voted down already. Unfortunately in the poorly written drama we find ourselves being led down right now, the only thing that is special about this election; is the real special interests that are behind it - the corporations and the elite that pull their strings or get pulled by their strings.
Personally I already read the book based on the docudrama of California corporations running every aspect of our lives and ruining every aspect of our lives - it's called the Octopus if you haven't heard about it before. I don't think that I want to continue sliding down this slippery slope that Arnold and his company have us on, in reality it seems much worse than the road that Gray Davis had us on. Not that I at all think that one should be traded for the other because that is how we got in this mess in the first place.

It was a Bob Smittcamps residency that the fundraiser took place. And it is Bob Smittcamp who owns Lyons. I did a couple months of temp work there and thought I had stepped back in hateful times. Little did I know many large Fresno owned business are run like his. They are the epitome of the good ol' boys. The bring up the people from the orchards to work the plant. Many were required to work over time, but were they paid overtime? I saw a guy with a hurt foot, he pulled off his sock and all the toes and 1/2 the foot was purple.. he was only in his 20's. I said you need to get to a Dr. right away. He said they wouldn't let him leave his shift. He said if he complained he would loss his job.. his wife was a reception. Many times I heard supervisors belittle, and on several occasions Smittcamp yelled at her,,resulting in her crying. All the women were afraid to speak up.. let alone speak out. It was so full of ignorant rednecks yet is in a predominately latino and black neighborhood... And you should see the Video survallience system in there.. both in Smittcamps office and the production office. I thought I had fallen back in time.
