In a sound nugget, the International Capoeira Angola Foundation - Oakland
is organizing a revel with a cause to raise funds for the Families and
Friends of Lousiana's Incarcerated Children who are providing living
support to the hundreds of formerly incarcerated youth who have been
evacuated from the Gulf Coast
detention centers.

The International Capoeira Angola Foundation - Oakland
( http://www.ficaoakland.org ) is dedicated to the preservation and
practice of Capoeira Angola, an Afro-Brazilian artform as a means to
building community.

FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF LOUISIANNA'S INCARCERATED CHILDREN (FFLIC) "is a
statewide membership-based organization dedicated to creating a better
life
for all of Louisiana's youth, especially those who are involved or at risk
of becoming involved in the juvenile justice system. We use education,
direct action organizing and peer advocacy to build strong, powerful
families and communities, and to fight for justice for our children and
ourselves. Since Katrina and Rita, we have been working to locate and
support all our members displaced by the storm and to reunite families
with loved ones who were incarcerated when Katrina hit. We are also
working with other groups to demand accountability for the oppresive
response to this disaster and to ensure a reconstruction of their
communities that lives up to the needs and dreams of its people."

CRITICAL RESISTANCE: "Critical Resistance seeks to build an international
movement to end the Prison Industrial Complex by challenging the belief
that caging and controlling people makes us safe. We believe that
basic necessities such as food, shelter, and freedom are what
really make our communities secure. As such, our work is part of
global struggles against inequality and powerlessness. The success of the
movement requires that it reflect communities most affected by the PIC.
Because we seek to abolish the PIC, we cannot support
any work that extends its life or scope."

COMMON GROUND COLLECTIVE:
"Common Ground Collective is a local, community-run organization offering
assistance, mutual aid and support to New Orleans communities that have
been historically neglected and underserved.
Common Ground's teams of volunteers include: medical and health providers,
aid workers, community organizers, legal representatives and people from
all over with broad skills from all walks of life."

Michael Kozart, M.D. will reportback from a recent trip to the collective
and share his experiences about whats happening now.

ELLA BAKER CENTER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS:
Lenore Anderson will speak on the Center's Books Not Bars Campaign. This
campaign seeks to redirect California's resources away from youth
incarceration towards youth opportunities through grassroots advocacy
campaigns.
