Contra Costa’s healthcare workers are requesting your solidarity in the struggle for their own health
THE FACTS: Mt. Diablo Medical Center employees (except registered nurses and doctors) are represented by SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West. In bargaining, Mt. Diablo’s management has tried to force an “Exclusive Provider Organization” healthplan down people’s throats, which would restrict where workers can go for hospital-based care. Workers can only go to “the company store.” You’d either go to Mt Diablo or John Muir or nowhere.
The union responded that they could discuss the plan, if there is a list of facilities where members and families can go to for specialty care, for example cancer, pediatric care, labor and delivery (especially high risk OB), neurology and a number of other categories. Management said No.
No union members anywhere in California have a health plan this bad.
If we let the bosses force this new kind of health plan on HOSPITAL workers, can you imagine what they’ll do to the rest of us next year?!!
CONTRA COSTA DEMANDS BETTER FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WORK HERE!
