Seeking Information in Regards to an intentional Hit and Run;SUV Vs Bicyclist

SEEKING INFORMATION ABOUT A HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT WITH A CYCLIST ON FRIDAY NIGHT @ 1AM
The police, friends and family are seeking any information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a traffic collision that occurred at 12:33am late on Friday night/early Saturday morning (December 17) at the corner of Florida St. and 20th St. in the Mission. Our dear friend and honorable contributor to the SF community, Spider Davila (aka J. Comford), was riding his bicycle and was violently struck by a motorist believed to be driving an SUV. The motorist fled the scene. Police have a description of the SUV, which is likely to have front-end damage. The driver, or passenger(s), have yet to be identified. Police, family and friends are looking for any witnesses to this violent hit-and-run accident, or if someone saw this vehicle in the neighborhood around this time, if they have any information about the suspect(s), or if they were a passenger in the vehicle, we are asking them to please come forward.

Spider is currently in San Francisco General Hospital in ICU, with numerous fractures in his face and a shattered jaw, a broken arm, and is currently intubated for respiratory support (breathing through a tube on a respirator). He is a beloved friend to many and a tremendous volunteer in the SF Community—he has made a massive impact with all of his volunteering for numerous organizations, fundraisers and events in the city: some examples include the YMCA, working with kids at the Crucible; volunteering extensively at The Bike Kitchen and Cyclecide; riding in the AIDS/LifeCycle; and was on the Gate/Perimeter crew at Burning Man. He is known and adored for his dear heart, kindness, warm laugh, and boundless generosity. His family and the community are hoping someone will come forward to honor the humanity of this extraordinary man.

I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas. I wanted to let you know about
a shocking revelation/development in the case we learned yesterday. Our
friend Spider was taken off the sedatives the other day and since he was
feeling more lucid, people started asking him more questions so we could get
some answers about what really happened last week. It is shocking and an
outrage: it ends up it was not a hit and run‹it was intentional assault.
Spider was at the 20th and Florida intersection on the phone with Moses,
standing by his bike, when an SUV (believed to be a black Cadillac Escalade)
was driving erratically and aggressively in the street. Spider yelled out,
³Nice way to drive your SUV² when it passed, and the driver then stopped
the car. Here¹s the absolutely chilling part: the cold-blooded mother fucker
then put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated into Spider. Thus far we are
estimating the car was 15-20 feet away. He didn¹t move because he thought
they were just trying to scare him, and wouldn¹t actually hit him. We now
sadly know differently.

We don¹t know much about the identity of the driver and the passenger thus
far (we believe there were two people in the SUV). The little detail we know
is they might be Caucasian or Hispanic. Messages have been left for
Inspector Krimsky by both Adam and Katy, and I have emailed him letting him
know about this shocking revelation in case he is checking email today. I am
hoping we can get him in to interview Spider on Monday‹he is lucid, clear,
and I think will be taken off the ICU ward and into the surgical floor
today. (A nice Christmas gift, that.)

Someone extremely generous has offered to put up a reward: I am going to
share this latest case development with the reward-offerer, and the
Inspector. It makes me wonder if a reward might inspire the passenger to
turn the driver in, or perhaps one of their thug friends who heard/know what
happened would turn them in.

Before we knew what happened and still thought this was a hit and run, I
emailed the inspector and asked his opinion about reward money, and this is
what he said:

> Personally, I believe that rewards hinder, rather then help. Defense Attorneys
> tend to play the money angle up later on, and there's always some other
> injured person who'll demand to know why the other cases got a reward, and not
> their own.

This will certainly be a media-worthy story‹I will ask the Inspector to
re-approach the Public Affairs office with this, and we can start our own
media outreach. I also think we need to change our flyers to reflect this
assault. There has also been talk about approaching body shops and letting
them know about this, but it¹s also hard to imagine the SUV has much damage
to its rear-end... We¹ll see what the Inspector thinks. I think as soon as
he hears what happened, he is going to be a bit stunned, as we all are, at
the violence and aggression of this total sociopath.

Shocking, disgusting, horrifying.
