Back to Berkeley Honda - Support the Strikers

When: Th., 1/12, 4:30-6:00 Berkeley Federation of Teachers

Sat., 1/14, 1:00-2:30 The Raging Grannies

Where: Parker & Shattuck

What's new: It appears that Berkeley Honda management wants to somehow
garner the public-relations advantages of negotiating an agreement with the union,
without having to implement the conditions that make the union valuable . For
example, they refuse to hire back all of the original Doten workers. They're
not offering a decent health plan. They won't budge on the pension plan.
And yet, conversations with them reveal that they want to find a way to settle
this ongoing dispute.

How they plan to do this without giving any ground in the major areas of
disagreement is a mystery to us. What is clear is that they are incredibly
stubborn. Fortunately, so are we.

As many of you know, the City of Berkeley says that tax revenue from the
dealership is significantly down, which means that we continue to impact their
business. One of these days, they'll get sick of losing money.

Dear Honda Strike Supporters:

It's time to up the pressure on Berkeley Honda. Are you interested in reaching out to local labor unions & community groups, so we can bolster the picket line? Would you like to make our presence even more visible throughout the area? Then the union & community outreach committee is for you. Our next meeting will be held:

Tuesday, January 17 - 6:30 PM
Coalition of University Employees (CUE) Local 3 Office
2161 Allston Way, Suite B, Berkeley

The CUE Local 3 office is located on the ground floor of a new, yellow building between Oxford & Shattuck streets, across from Cancun restaurant. It's several steps into a courtyard, which is flanked by Edward Jones on one side & Cartridge World on the other.

If you have any ideas for items to discuss at the meeting, please contact me at jon.rodney [at] gmail.com If you plan to come to the meeting, please be thinking of different community groups that you know & how we might contact them.

In solidarity,

Jon Rodney
