2006 Bay Area Green Party Candidates

by repost
This upcoming election in California will have many important Green Party candidates running for office, a number of whom are from and representing the Bay Area. Here are some of the current candidates and their websites:

Aimee Allison for Oakland City Council in District 2
"I’m running for Oakland City Council in District 2 because I love Oakland and believe in its possibilities. District 2 is the most diverse district in Oakland. The person who represents this district must be able to unite these diverse communities and actively work on policies that reflect our progressive values."

Forrest Hill for California Secretary of State
"I am running for California Secretary of State because I believe there is a great need for election reform in California to bring about a fair and just election system, which is the reform upon which all else in our democracy depends. Without justice at the ballot box, there can be no justice in our society or accountability in our government."

Laura Wells for California State Controller
"I am running because THERE ARE SOLUTIONS to the problems we face in California. People of this state have planted seeds for improving education, healthcare, and the environment – as well as public safety, transportation and employment. The Controller in California can help citizens use the tools, such as wise investment of our taxes, and renewal of our natural and human resources. As recently as the November 2005 election we saw people say “no” to destructive methods. We can continue this shift, toward a healthy, participative system in which we build a better future."

Todd Chretien for US Senate
"My name is Todd Chretien and this morning I am announcing my intention to seek the Green Party nomination to run against Dianne Feinstein for United States Senate in November 2006. Senator Feinstein is not part of the movement against the war, she makes President Bush’s war possible. The Republican Party is so happy with Sen. Feinstein’s support of President Bush that they do not intend to run a serious candidate against her in November 2006. But if the pro-war Republican Party will not challenge Sen. Feinstein, then the anti-war Green Party will, and I will appeal to all people to turn this Senate election into a referendum on the war. If you want to stop the deaths of more young American soldiers, stop the killing of tens of thousands of Iraqis and transfer the $250 billion a year we are spending to occupy Iraq into a fund to rebuild New Orleans, refurbish our school system, and provide health insurance for every American, then you have no reason to vote for Sen. Feinstein and every reason to vote for me."
