The Republican Party, and the appointee of Schwarzenegger, is resorting to illegal politics to keep third party candidates off the ballot.
CANDIDATE CHARGES “REPUBLICAN COUP”

Stewart A. Alexander
2006 Candidate
California Lieutenant Governor
Peace and Freedom Party

February 1, 2006

Stewart A. Alexander of Murrieta has obtained all the signatures he needs to get on the ballot as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor of California. He expects no opposition in the June primary election, which should guarantee him a line on the November general election ballot representing the Peace and Freedom Party. But a sudden reinterpretation of election law by Secretary of State Bruce McPherson threatens to keep his name off the ballot entirely. McPherson claimed Tuesday that the Peace and Freedom Party cannot participate in the primary despite having over 59,000 voters.

“This is a Republican coup,” Alexander says of McPherson’s announcement. “McPherson knows that our party has more than ten times the number of voters we need to keep our ballot position, and we have learned that his own staff is completely aware of this fact. But Arnold appointed McPherson to carry out a Republican Party agenda, including illegal attacks on our ballot rights. This is another means to preserve only a two party system, perhaps a one party system in California and America”.

Alexander says he is confident that McPherson will be overruled in the courts, but he is worried that some other candidates will be distracted during the signature-gathering period and will fail to qualify for the ballot. He has volunteered to help register voters with other Peace and Freedom Party candidates who are still gathering signatures.

Alexander says “It has been very easy to register voters because our message is simple; stop the war in Iraq, raise the minimum wage and fighting for working people.
We can’t let McPherson’s coup stop us”.
