Bay Area Children's Hospital Biased against Blacks?

by Baken
Ever notice that Bay Area hospitals and Children's in particular make it hard to find information on African American diseases? A recent review of a local hospital in Oakland shows the prejudice in information and ease of access to support services. Other diseases that are primarily white-man diseases have tons of information and counselors.
I feel it is an affront and insult to the black community to not offer us easy web access to counseling and informative services for HIV and sickle Cell. Being a proud member of my local Baptist congregation I intend on bring this up in our local groups to see if this is a wider spread problem.

Why do you not have Sickle Cell counseling information on the web like everyone else. Is it because this is an African American disease. I see from you web-pages on Diabetes, Rett's and 'Sleeping', that you offer counseling or referral services, why not for Sickle Cell?

Other Hospitals like Children's St. Louis have a very informative web site and easy access to counselors (see: http://www.stlouischildrens.org/default.aspx?tabid=89&acn=view&aid=149 )
Is it because that community is not a federal research center and has a real health care company behind them? Is it the case that since we live in a poorer area we get worse medical information?

The fact that your hospital receives federal money and is lacking good support for the black community (that is your primary demographic) is a disgrace and speaks to a larger issue of keeping us down... For a disease you know is killing us.

The media needs to hear about this as well. I intend on sharing this with Seven on Your Side, to show the lack of help for a primarily African American disease and lack of attention given by Children's Hospital.

This makes one wounder is Children's "The Constant Gardener", working for the man to keep the community down? This country's overall support for African American's is showing. I thought that by moving to the Bay Area I would NOT see medical or disease discrimination like I did in Louisiana and Mississippi. It appears the only thing going on in the Bay Area is Big Pharma Money, using the black people as ginny pigs, and not worrying if the black people have a BPM in the end. This hospital does not even try to offer easy web access to educational material or make it easy to find a person to talk to.

Is all this HIV, Sickle Cell and other primarily black diseases really just another form of biological testing going on in the Bay Area like in the 1950's? I bet this hospital is primarily funded by Big Pharma and Federal money. In fact I bet when push comes to shove you have mainly white doctors working with our disease. It is clear to see in the name of your hospital that you run a "Research Center", but for who's benefit remains.

Did biological testing on an unknowing human population ever stop in the San Francisco East Bay area?

Read this article and you be the judge:

Read the other SF Gate article that explains how many people 'they publish' died as a result of the 1950's Bio warfare on the people of the Bay Area.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/10/31/SIDER.TMP

The article states that for 6 days in late September 1950, YES ALMOST A COMPLETE WEEK. The U.S. military sprayed San Francisco with a huge cloud of Bio warefar particles that killed and caused 11 rich people (that could afford) to be hospitalized.

Several Bay Area communities including Sausalito, Albany, Berkeley, Oakland, San Leandro, San Francisco, Daly City, Walnut Creek and Colma appear to possibly be having problems to this very day with biological agent. As recently noted in this article:
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/10/31/MNG5O9JIJQ1.DTL

According to several article AIDS was also a bio warfare test on Oakland and San Francisco:
http://www.sonic.net/~doretk/ArchiveARCHIVE/Aids/1.%20AIDS%20Biowarfare.html

It is not far fetched, as the government has used horrible biological tests on black people before like in the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. See:

One thing seems clear that when you have health centers that are federally funded "Research Centers" that do not seem to really be helping people, then one has to ask what is the real purpose?

Yes, I would agree with the original posters reference to the recent movie, "The Constant Gardener". One might say that the Bay Area is really just an African test bed, like Africa for biological research, on an unknowing population - or so it seems possible from the Bay Area's history.

With the administration using this area as a practice ground:

It would seem we live in very strange days.

PANAMA CITY, Florida (CNN) -- A 14-year-old boy who died while being restrained at a military-style boot camp suffered from sickle cell trait, natural complications of which caused the teen's death, according to a medical examiner's report released Thursday.
