Islais Creek Bridge by Marin Street will being the worst pollution and death.

by Francisco Da Costa (frandacosta [at] att.net)
The Islais Creek Bridge now being built by San Francisco Port Authority will contribute to pollution and death. Millions of vehicles will spew dangerous particulates that will adversely impact the Bayview area. The Bay is already polluted and with this new bridge more pollution will adversely impact the Bay. Mayor Gavin Newsom knows about this polluting bridge but will do nothing about it. The Bridge is being built over a Force Main and no one is speaking up. The Bridge design is poor and is not wanted but some forces want it with any justification.

The Islais Creek Bridge is now being built by the San Francisco Port Authority (SFRA). This bridge will pollute a very wide area and Mayor Gavin Newsom call our City a Green City.

The SFRA is spending over $30 million to built this bridge. 100 feet away is another bridge now being retrofitted.

Tons of particulates released in the air will kill innocent children and adults in the Bayview. Million of vehicles will ply on this bridge and no through Environmental Impact Study has been done.

No one is looking at the Cumulative Pollution - the Raw Sewage Treatment Plant releasing particulates, the power plants, the concrete and aggregate companies, the millions of vehicles all very polluting.

The bridge is being built on a Force Main - a very large pipe that carries 80% of the City's treated sewage. 100% of the treated sewage from Daly City, Colma, Burlingame, and Brisbane.
The Force Main goes to an out fall by Pier 80 into the Bay where the treated sewage is discharged. When it rain the Phelps Raw Sewage Plant cannot without the heavy load and half-treated sewage is often discharged into the Bay. This is the year 2006!

Some years ago the Force Main was compromised when 3 conduits were dug under the Force Main. The Force Main continues to be compromised and if it breaks it will cause very serious health and safety issues.

Call 554-6975 and protest. Ask to speak to the Mayor's Office.

Please go to Marin Street on 3rd Street and by Pier 80 and check out this bridge being built:
