Important Action to Defend Fired Worker (6/13)

by SWCJ (repost)
FORWARD WIDELY!!!
angelaactionflyer_s.jpg
WE DEMAND THAT ANGELA RUIZ BE REINSTATED IMMEDIATELY!!!

We recognize that the unjust firing of Angela Ruiz (Former Crown
Custodian) is directly connected to her participation in a peaceful action
protesting the presence of UC President Dynes on Campus during the Wage
Parity struggle (She was fired upon returning to her work site after
participating in the action during her lunch break, her legal right!!!).
We recognize this ruthless action as an attempt to undermine the efforts
of workers and students to organize and collectively struggle for
justice!!!?

Tomorrow there's a protest in support of Angela Ruiz, a former custodian at Crown college fired for her participation in her union. Angela has been a custodian at Crown College for a long time, receiving great work evaluations, but was fired in April for going to a union protest against UC President Dynes' visit to campus. Even though the protest was during her lunch break, her boss still fired her when she came back! Support Angela in her fight to get her job back!

PROTEST
Wednesday, June 13, 2:30, outside Kerr Hall (Chancellor's office)

To:

Congratulations to all!
Labor Relations called to say that Angela Ruiz will be reinstated to work starting Monday morning. Thank you to all of you for your support. We have won a huge victory - Let it be known, we will not stand by when workers face retaliation and discrimination.

Special props to:

All AFSCME members for their support with the rallies, delegations and petitions.

Lead custodians for their bravery in refusing lead work in solidarity with Angela's pending reinstatement.

Students for publicizing her case, organizing delegations and rallies in her support, and prioritizing Angela's case in the midst of finals, move-out, graduation and everything else.

Assemblymember John Laird for calling the Chancellor's office and the Sentinel.

City Councilmember Tony Madrigal for calling the Chancellor's office.

Vice Chancellor Ashish Sahni for his openness.

UAW, UPTE, CUE, SUA, and other campus community members for their statements of support and participation in our actions.

Angela Ruiz for the many hours she spent fighting not just for herself but for the rights of all workers.

si se puede,
Allison
