About Uncommon Knowledge: (running time 28 minutes)
Award winning documentary filmmaker Ellen Bruno called it, “A beautifully crafted and poetic political commentary.”

A unique view of privatization, Uncommon Knowledge takes place inside UC Berkeley Extension as plans unfold to shut-down its historic San Francisco campus in favor of a profitable private development. A surprisingly human story and a revealing look into higher education, Uncommon Knowledge is a hauntingly beautiful portrait of a campus and the community it served.

Original soundtrack by acclaimed Bay Area musicians Tim Barsky and Everyday Theatre, with additional music by the Toids.

About the Filmmaker:
Eliza Hemenway is a Bay Area documentary filmmaker and founder of Trinity Productions, an independent media production company. She is currently directing the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival and is a film reviewer for KRCB 91.1 FM (NPR Santa Rosa).

An extremely timely Bay Area story!
UC Regents have submitted a proposal to SF City Hall seeking to permanently end public use on the historic 5.8 acre UCBE campus in order to convert it into a high-density housing development. The campus has a history of public use exceeding 150 years and a legacy of public education. The SF Examiner recently ran a front-page story about the developer’s plans (6/11/07). UC’s plans for the campus are extremely controversial and the article received a flurry of comments from the community. See http://www.hemenwaydocs.com for more information.
