Jeanne McDonnell, pictured below, was interviewed by KPFA today. She is the author of the biography, Juana Briones of 19th Century California, published by University of Arizona Press. She is a popular speaker on the subject of women in California's *Californio* period, and recently addressed a group at National Hispanic University's 'Homenaje a la Mujer: Back to the Future' program.

There are remnants of Indian occupation of the site of Juana Briones home and many schools over the years brought children to the Briones House for lessons in California history when the Women's Heritage Museum sponsored public tours 20 days a year.

The house's future is uncertain as the current owners continue to plague preservationists. They have let the house fall into disrepair as the legal battles continue. However, there is news that is positive, as a court ordered that the house NOT be torn down shortly before demolition was scheduled. The struggle continues...
