April 15, 2011: Transgendered women and their allies gathered to protest the beating of a transwoman April 1st at 16th and Mission Streets in San Francisco. Demonstrators were called on by El/La, a translatina organization who knew the woman who had been attacked. Protesters demanded that the community stand up to transphobia and not depend on the police, who have a history of abuse targeting transgender and gender-nonconforming people.
