The last ditch effort of capitalism- a walking tour

Date:
Sunday, August 23, 2015
Time:
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Event Type:
Class/Workshop
Organizer/Author:
David Giesen
Location Details:
312 Mason Street (American Youth Hostel)
San Francisco, CA

If you're up for an athletic stomp around downtown SF, and ready to pull the tunes from your ears for two hours, and have at least the intellectual pizzazz of Ross Mirkarimi, and believe having a social philosophy in mind before you open your mouth to talk politics is a good idea, and really do want to make a difference in this life in clearing out the cruddy thinking that abides the filth and poverty that shows up too often in this city, and if you're ready to really take time out from worrying about the kids or what restaurant to snarf down at or how many apps you've got or whether the next life will be better than this one, then

join Dave Giesen on a walking tour introducing San Francisco's Big Idea social philosophy. First we survey a number of social movements that made SF home for more or less time, then we observe what these movements all had in common--a desire to enjoy security of person and freedom of action in geography--, and lastly we deliver a hands-on introduction to the San Francisco original social philosophy which Karl Marx called the "last ditch effort of capitalism."

If you're not against keeping your earnings, but are intrigued by the statement, "No one should make a buck from merely owning nature and making other people pay to use air, water and land," then by golly, you deserve this Sunday morning walk/talk.
