Join us for a book launch of Shanta Nimbark Sacharoff’s new book, Other Avenues Are Possible: The Legacy of the People's Food System of the San Francisco Bay Area. Beginning with a rare, historical ten-minute video depicting SF's food cooperative movement at its peak in the 1970s, Shanta will summarize the growth and eventual collapse of that era, leaving only a few organizations such as Rainbow Grocery and Other Avenues in San Francisco.
Shanta is an original member Other Avenues Grocery, a worker-owned food co-op started in 1974 in the Outer Sunset. A talented chef as well, she is author of Flavors of India: Vegetarian Indian Cuisine. Shanta also teaches private cooking classes, specializing in Indian cuisine.
The author's talk will be followed by questions & discussion, and signed copies her book will be available.
