Free Radio Evicted Today - Still on Internet

by Uncle Dennis
The transmitter for Free Radio Santa Cruz went silent today because our host has been evicted. We are actively looking for a new site for our transmitter and antenna. Meanwhile we are still live web streaming at http://www.freakradio.org.
Free Radio Santa Cruz, the only local, independent community radio station remaining in Santa Cruz, has been forced once again to look for a new transmitter site. Our host for many years has lost their house and is being evicted.

We are looking for a new transmitter site, either on the Westside or Eastside, but not downtown. The ideal site would be on a ridge overlooking Santa Cruz, but we can work with tall trees, roofs or our own mast for the antenna. We need access to electricity, internet and to our equipment 24/7. We have our own shed for the transmitter. We can pay a small amount each month to help cover electricity and internet costs, but we don't use much of either. We can also discuss the legal aspects of hosting Free Radio.

Please contact us at frsc [at] freakradio.org if you have a transmitter site available or know of a possibility.

Free Radio was organized over 21 years ago by a coalition of community groups and activists. We are collectively run and supported by programmer dues and donations from listeners and supporters. We accept no commercials or corporate underwriting. In addition to local programmers, we broadcast a wide variety of independently produced shows from around the world in English and Spanish. We were the first station in Santa Cruz to broadcast Amy Goodman's 'Democracy Now!' which airs twice daily at 8 am and noon. Please check out our schedule for complete program listings.

We encourage local community members who want to join the Free Radio Collective and produce a weekly show to contact us through our website http://www.freakradio.org with their program proposal. Collective members help fund station expenses or provide a service in support of the station.
