Bay Area Residents Urge The Electors Of The Electoral College To Dump Trump

By Lynda Carson - December 9, 2016

Oakland - People in the Bay Area and all across the country are taking the battle directly to Trump by sending emails to the electors through a website called “Ask The Electors,” in an effort to convince the electors that they should not vote for President-elect Donald Trump. Those of you reading this article can join the more than 150,000 people who have already contacted the electors in opposition to Trump, by sending your emails to the electors. If enough electors fail to vote for Trump on December 19, Trump will not be allowed to take the oath of office on January 20, and he will not be certified as the next president of the United States.

Regardless how the election recount may go, it will be up to the electors of the Electoral College in each state to vote for, or against, President-elect Donald Trump on December 19, as is required under federal law. It is possible that faithless electors of the Electoral College will not vote for Trump, and may switch their votes to Hillary Clinton, or not vote at all on December 19.

Some states have passed laws to control the electors in an effort to block them from voting their heart, and presently the electors are being urged to vote against Trump even if it is illegal, or an act of civil disobedience. One law firm is offering legal support to anti-Trump electors who break the law by voting against President-elect Donald Trump, on or before December 19.

The following Bay Area residents who have spoken out in opposition to Trump have agreed to allow their messages to the electors, to be viewed by the public:

Dear Electors,

My name is Ellen Schwartz from Oakland, CA.

Who I voted for is of no consequence at the moment. What IS of prime importance is the fact the the President Elect did NOT win the popular vote and is currently flying in the face of all Constitutional and ethical guidelines to pursue his own agenda, NOT lead America in our long-standing freedom-for-all Democracy. He has proven he is not up to this important job and must not be handed the keys to the car that is on a collision course with all we hold dear. Please, VOTE YOUR CONSCIENCE and your RIGHT as a responsible elector who is in office to represent citizens from the UNITED States, not just certain red states with hate and elitism as their platform. We are all better than this and you can help prove it by installing the candidate who was truly elected on Nov. 7.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Ellen

Dear Electors,

My name is Megan Larson from Oakland, CA.

I am terrified that our president-elect will not uphold the laws and institutions that make this country great.

Donald Trump's willingness to subvert or undermine our institutions for the most minimal appearance of a "win" puts our democracy at risk. The president is sworn to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, a document Trump has shown little understanding of nor respect for.

We have already seen evidence of his attacking private citizens, of publicly retaliating against critics, of undermining norms of transparency and conflict of interest, and of his disinterest in the rigorously applying himself to the complexity and demands of the office of president.

Please consider not casting your vote for Donald Trump, a man who represents a significant threat to our democracy.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Megan

Dear Madams and Sirs.

My name is Denise Adams from Oakland, CA.

I quite understand this is unprecedented, but clearly the reason to give those that vote for the candidate they were assigned to vote for by the election, the right to vote their conscious and be able to vote for the candidate that won the popular vote by over 2.6 million votes is clearly the person that should win. Besides we knew that Mr Trump would not let go of his business interests while president and make bucket loads of money off the American tax payers is just not appropriate or ethical. He does not know how to control his tongue and bullies everyone that disagrees with him. Look at the labor leader that came out and said Trump lied and he is being harassed. Probably in fear for his life by those who are Trumps white supremacy army. And don't forget the white supremacists. Please we are living in 2016 looking ahead to 2020. This country will sincerely be a horrible place if he is allowed to take the presidency. I seriously still do not think he wants to or why would he want to continue to be executive producer or his reality show. He doesn't want to live in the white House- his wife doesn't want to live in the white house is this just not appropriate or even presidential. Also look at all the voter tampering that is being discovered in the swing states. The reason Ms Clinton's supporter was in disbelief that she did not win because all polling showed that she was ahead. If there was voter tampering at the polls (which there was- but we still are not sure how deep) and the Russian influences in the elections, we American people have been played just like a reality tv show. I really do not want to see the outcome if he becomes the President.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Denise

Dear Electors,

My name is Sarah Smith from Oakland, CA.

Electors, you have a chance to be on the right side of history. Please, for the love of God, do not cast your vote for Trump. The majority of Americans voted for Hillary. The majority of Americans are genuinely fearful of what a Trump America will look like. You should be fearful, too. If you love this country, if you think that The United States is better than this, DO THE RIGHT THING. You are the only ones who can save us. The only people on earth that can stop this train wreck from happening. We are counting on you. We are begging you. Please, please vote for Hillary. You are the safety net for this country. Catch us before we fall.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Sarah

Dear Electors,

My name is Natalie Ramos from Oakland, CA.

I am writing to ask you to please consider casting your electoral vote for anyone other than Donald Trump.

This presidential election was the first election in which I was able to exercise my right to vote. For the months leading up to it, I was filled with hope and a strong belief that the American people could prove to be champions of human rights and build upon the progress that has been made in the past decades.

For the past month, I have been trying to understand how a person who represents so much hate and bigotry could have ever been elected to lead this country. I am scared for myself, my family, my friends, and everyone who does not fit the white male mold that Donald Trump claims as superior to all. I believe the beauty of this country lies in its diversity and its history of being a land open to all. These values need to be upheld, and a person who treats and refers to women as submissive, inferior beings and who has vowed to ban an entire religion from a country built on religious freedom is clearly unfit to do so. Sexism, racism, xenophobia, and homophobia should not and cannot be condoned and preached at this time in our history. We have come too far.

Please consider casting your vote for someone who does not represent these values.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Natalie

Dear Electors,

My name is Jonna Thomas from Richmond, CA.

I support all electors uniting behind a consensus candidate qualified to act and capable of honoring our Constitution--regardless of party. Please follow the purpose of the electoral college and protect our nation from an election won on false propaganda. We, the people, will support you. Please save us before it's too late. You are our last hope.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Jonna

It seems our country has reached a crossroads forthought by our founders. There are threats of fallout from you exercising you duty in changing your vote, but there are serious circumstance for us all it things stay the course. I hope that these promises of support will help you make the decision you believe you should.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Dear Electors,

My name is Rebecca Reagan-Thieme from San Francisco, CA.

This is my open plea to our Electors to vote on December 19th with their consciences. I hope they understand that they have the right to know everything they should know (demand Trump's tax returns now!), consider their duty in peace, and deliberate as long as they need to to come to a conclusion that upholds the Constitution and the aims of our founders in creating the College.

I ask this in no small part because I believe that a Trump presidency will be disastrous to our nation, our geopolitical world, and our ecology. Our convoluted system of government is uniquely suited to the challenge of ensuring that the Executive branch is led by a qualified person, not a demagogue. You are this safety measure. You are our back-up plan.

Please consider your sacred duty carefully, and vote with your consciences.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Rebecca

Dear Electors,

My name is Marcia Lusk from San Francisco, CA.

Please do not vote for Donald Trump. He is already taking great advantage of the country and has massive conflicts of interest. He is not trying to bring our country together. He continues to bully people on Twitter, with real implications for him. He isn't even interested in Intelligence briefings How can he keep us safe, avoid terrorist attacks and bring this country together with his lack of interest in anything other than increasing his own family's wealth?

Please, save our country by not casting your electoral vote for him!

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Marcia

Dear Electors,

My name is Erin Bayer from San Francisco, CA.

It's increasingly clear that Trump is unqualified to be President, whether you look at his business ethics as a bully and his ruthless practices, or his stock portfolio, or his unprofessional and demeaning comments about women, the disabled, people of color, and anyone he sees as a threat.

And what about the legal suits against him from multiple accounts of sexual assault, to unpaid bills and other business deals gone bad. Then there are the blatant lies he continues to tell- gross exaggerations, downright false claims and personal attacks never seen before in such despicable disregard for the office supposedly 'of the people'.

YOU ARE OUR FAILSAFE AND THE ANSWER IS CLEAR. PROTECT OUR DAUGHTERS, OUR WORKERS, OUR FUTURE. DUMP TRUMP!

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Erin

Dear Electors,

a) Vast and irreconcilable Conflicts of Interest, including Foreign financial ties;

b) A gross and dangerous Lack of Qualifications in public service, security and foreign diplomatic relations, and Gross Negligence in failing, for example, to attend 17 of the first 20 Security Briefings (which got us the 9/11 World Trade Center disaster the last time a President neglected this responsibility);

c) Empty Demagoguery, per the Constitutional definition;

d) The fact that a "Trump presidency" has been formally declared by TOP U.S and global security and military officials (including a significant number of Republicans and Foreign Heads of State): as a TOP National and Global Security Threat, and Trump as unfit to possess the Nuclear Codes;

e) Trump has been assessed as suffering from serious psychological and personality disorders by Harvard psychologists and professional members of the American Psychological Association, which renders him unstable of character to lead and fulfill the solemn responsibility, complex roles security decisions of U.S. President.

If the Electors will not honor the Popular Vote directly, ask them as a MINIMUM; to condition their vote to Trump permanently resolving ALL his Conflicts of Interest, per compliance with the U.S. Constitution, prior to Inauguration Day on Jan. 20th, short of which the Electoral Vote would default to Hillary Clinton

PLEASE VOTE YOUR CONSCIENCE, PLEASE DON'T ALLOW THIS MONSTER TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY!

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Keri

Dear Electors,

My name is Carla Eagleton from San Francisco Ca

I would agree that it would not make sense to elect Hillary Clinton IF she had not won the popular vote. However, in that time a few things have happened. First, her lead has continued to grow and could end up around 3 million votes, while Donald Trump's lead in the key states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania has shrunk to around 70,000 votes. Who the American people want to be their President could not be more clear.

But even if Clinton did not have such popular support, the actions of President-Elect Donald Trump since November 8 have disqualified him from the presidency. He has refused to disentangle himself from his business interests, most recently stating that he would stay on as executive produce of The Apprentice, he will cost American taxpayers millions of dollars by refusing to move his family to the White House, he has broken with decades of precedent to damage our relationship with China, he has put the life and safety of a union president in danger, and he cannot tolerate jokes made at his expense. He has also filled his cabinet with individuals who are all fundamentally opposed to the missions of the departments they are supposed to lead.

All of this, of course, is on top of bragging about sexual assault, being accused of sexual assault, threatening to imprison his political opponent, lying to the public, and mocking a disabled reporter.

Whatever your party, whatever your politics, whatever your district, whatever your party leaders might tell you, as an elector, you have a constitutional duty to not elect Donald Trump as the next President of the United States.

For the first time in my life politics aside, I am truly afraid for my Country, the Earth and our Democracy.

Pleas, please consider your vote as a matter of National and Global Security

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Carla

Dear Electors,

I humbly ask that you consider the legacy of our great country when making your electoral vote. Please consider that a vote for Donald Trump undermines the sacrifices of those who have worked to build our country. A man who puts his own interests above the interests of the country is not fit to lead. His volatile nature and gross entitlement are not qualities befitting a president. In the month since his election, he has abandoned his promises to his voters, and since he did not even come close to winning the popular vote, it is quite clear that if the electoral college votes him in, he will be one of the most unpopular presidents in our history, not to mention the least-qualified. You have the power and responsibility to stop him.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

It is apparent that Hillary Clinton is more qualified to be the President than Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton has won the popular vote by over 2.5 million votes over Donal Trump.

I could rap on as to why Trump cannot be allowed to be the President.

It is up to you to make sure that Trump does not take the oath of office on January 20.

Please do not vote for Donald Trump.

Dear Electors,

My name is Etta Tyler from Santa Cruz, CA.

I am very concerned about the prospect of a Donald Trump presidency and the cabinet he is appointing. Mr. Trump's propensity for thoughtlessly issuing Twitter comments, apparently without any thought, deliberation, or consideration for whether or not it is true or not is dangerous. It has already resulted in one non lethal shooting and death threats toward a journalists who merely opposed Mr. Trump's point of view.

Mr. Trump's cabinet choices largely either know very little about the agencies they are supposed to run, or are openly hostile toward them. Many have extreme agendas.

He has shown public, blatant disrespect for many of the people he will be governing including women, the disabled and minorities. How can we expect fair treatment of these populations when he is so openly hostile toward them?

He has already defied decades of policy with China regarding Taiwan and seems to be promoting a trade war with China which would be disastrous, and he isn't even the president yet!

I could go on and on. Bottom line is that it should be apparent to everyone that Mr. Trump does not have the temperament, stability or experience to be the president of the United States. Please don't cast your vote for this man, I urge you.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Sincerely,
Etta

Dear Electors,

My name is Victor Dods from Orinda, CA.

It is precisely the situation we are facing now that the Electoral College was intended to address. Donald Trump has shown, first by his words during his campaign, now made irrefutable by his actions as President-Elect, that he is unfit to hold the highest office in our government.

The Federalist [Papers] are commentary on the Constitution written by some of the founding fathers of this country, explaining more verbosely the intents behind the Constitution itself. Federalist No. 68 explains the function of the Electoral College; it describes its members:

"It was equally desirable, that the immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice. A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated investigations."

It describes its function:

"Nothing was more to be desired than that every practicable obstacle should be opposed to cabal, intrigue, and corruption. These most deadly adversaries of republican government might naturally have been expected to make their approaches from more than one quarter, but chiefly from the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils. [...]"

And it further describes its responsibility:

"The process of election affords a moral certainty, that the office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications. Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United States. It will not be too strong to say, that there will be a constant probability of seeing the station filled by characters pre-eminent for ability and virtue."

Donald Trump has very clearly shown himself not to meet the standards of elected office, let alone the office of President. He doesn't even meet the standard of being a role model that any decent adult should be for our children, let alone being the role model that the President is to all citizens. Finally, he has shown through direct action by his cabinet appointments that he will only increase the corruption in our government and will blithely undo the progress (e.g. in environmental protection, healthcare, foreign policy) that many Americans, across party boundaries, have so carefully worked for.

I urge you in your duties as an Elector, to remain grounded to the purpose and intent of the Constitution, and prevent Donald Trump from being elected President.

Dear Electors,

Since the election, President Elect Donald Trump has only attended three national security briefings, yet he has time to spend on Twitter attacking individuals who say critical things about him. He will continue to serve as executive producer for the reality TV show "Celebrity Apprentice," and he has refused to release his tax returns so the American people have no way of knowing what kinds of conflicts of interest are in store for the White House. The Electoral College was designed precisely to prevent a person like this from becoming President. Please give serious thought to the wisest use of your electoral vote, and then vote your conscience.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

Dear Esteemed Electors

My name is Peter Wolf from Sebastopol, CA.

Secty. Clinton has won our vote. But put politics aside. This is not just about the fact that Clinton has actually won our American population's vote.

The future of our nation is at stake. A President must have protocol. A President who runs a Democracy must not go rogue, subject to an absence of impulse control. A President must not have a personal financial stake in the business of our economy and political actions. A President must make the job first, not placing family members into direct international relations and meetings with our without clearances. A President must act to uphold Civil Rights, just as we hold other nations accountable. Mr. Trump has already - in fact - demonstrated a violation of every one of these. And all have been prior to entering an office.

You have no pressure other than to honor the wish of this nation as a majority - which has spoken and is speaking louder through recounted ballots daily. Yet, you have a horrible pressure presented to you, by the American People: By holding to the honor and decency of recognizing our vote and acting accordingly, you will - in fact - save this nation from a possible disaster which may take generations to repair here and in the world.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.

First, thank you for your service. It is much appreciated. Next, you all now have the greatest challenge ever imposed upon the Electoral College. And I have faith that you are up to this challenge.

Please vote your conscience. Research what Donald Trump has said during his campaign and since and the people he has surrounded himself with now. If you agree with him, then, again, vote your conscience. How you vote will tell many of us what your values and priorities are. for all of us. It is a monumental decision to not vote Donald Trump into our presidency. But I ask you to consider doing just that. Your vote will go down in history, either way. God bless you.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I appreciate and respect the role you serve in our electoral process.
