Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Chairman responds to oil in DAPL
Cannon Ball, N.D., March 28, 2017 — Today, we received word that oil is now present in the newly completed Dakota Access Pipeline. Chairman Archambault stated, “While we are disappointed that our pleas to the court and current administration have thus far fallen on deaf ears, we remain committed to fighting the transmission of dirty fossil fuels through our territory and putting a stop to the flow of oil in this pipeline.”
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe would like to reiterate that while this is a setback, and a frightening one at that, we will not stop at any cost. Just because oil flow is pending does not mean that it cannot be stopped by court order, and we have a strong, ongoing case in front of the courts at this moment. We will exhaust every appeal. We ask that our allies around the world continue to stand with us and voice your opinions about the current threat against the drinking water of millions of American citizens.
We ask that you stand not only with us, but against the dozens of proposed projects around the world that endanger health and human welfare in the name of corporate interests and government corruption. We commend the banks and various governments around the world that have pulled back from doing business with companies who facilitate unsafe energy and infrastructure practices, and continue to press others to follow suit.
