116 Years a Colony:
The Roots of Puerto Rico’s Crisis

Friday, July 14, 7pm
2969 Mission St., SF
Share Facebook Event

Puerto Rico has been in the news a lot lately. There are headlines about its staggering $73 billion debt to U.S. banks, images of students shutting down the island’s universities to protest the austerity measures and tuition hikes. Freedom fighter Oscar López Rivera was honored at this year’s Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City, and a controversial referendum was just held on Puerto Rico’s status.

Join us for presentations and discussion about Puerto Rico’s unique history and culture, its colonial legacy, and how the people are fighting back against U.S. imperialism.
