Is the Propaganda Machine of the Ultra-wealthy That Effective!!

by Jeramy Dominguez
As long as there is dark money and relaxed regulations around campaign contributions, members of congress will always be able to be “bought” into supporting the interests of the top 10%, while the bottom 90% are left to fight over the leftovers.
There are people making less than $40,000 a year who will vehemently protect the right of billionaires to receive trillions of dollars in tax cuts, while at the same time opposing a minimum wage increase for themselves. The root of the issue is easy to decipher; rich people will go to many lengths to stay rich. In America, there is a simple way for rich people to maintain their wealth and power; lobby Congress. During the pandemic many people in America had trouble paying rent and putting food on their table, while Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk saw their wealth increase by $217 billion in 2020. Every Republican senator only voted for a one time payment of $600-$1,200 to support American workers through one of the worst economic disasters of modern times. The $600-$1,200 stimulus checks were begrudgingly voted on, all while declaring the payments an “act of socialism” and “entitlements of an entitled society.” With no sense of irony these same Republican senators voted on tax cuts for the wealthy to a tune of $1.9 trillion! In contrast, the Republican led congress only spent $300 billion on a one-time tax break for middle and low income workers. As long as there is dark money and relaxed regulations around campaign contributions, members of congress will always be able to be “bought” into supporting the interests of the top 10%, while the bottom 90% are left to fight over the leftovers.
