Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqah (وليد دقة) dies, the machine grinds on

by Under 50
Walid Daqqah had been locked up for 38 years - the United States holds anti-colonialists in prison for even longer terms
Reports in English are beginning to spread indicating that Walid Daqqah (وليد دقة), a Palestinian political prisoner born under the Zionist regime of the early 1960s, has died of medical neglect & mistreatment. More than a dozen Palestinians have died in Israeli colonial prisons since 7 October.

Despite increasingly urgent calls & broadening coalitions demanding his release in the past several years, Daqqah was routinely denied release or relief. A member of the PFLP, he wrote numerous books across genres while incarcerated, but also had his sperm smuggled out of prison to his wife, who gave birth to their child Milad (ميلاد) in 2020.

Daqqah had been locked up for 38 years - more than a decade longer than Nelson Mandela. The length of his incarceration sounds exceptional, yet while these words are being typed Israel's close partner, the United States, continues to hold numerous anti-colonialists in prison for even longer terms:

The Virgin Island 3 - Abdul Aziz, Hanif Shabazz Bey, Malik El-Amin - each over 50 years
Joe-Joe Bowen - over 50 years
Veronza Bowers - over 50 years
Muhammad Burton - over 50 years
Kojo Bomani Sababu - 49 years
Zulu - 49 years
Leonard Pelter - 49 years
Bill Dunne - 45 years
Mumia Abu-Jamal - over 40 years

These are only a handful of the hundreds currently jailed for struggling against the empire from within its entirely illegitimate borders. In occupied Palestine, that number currently stands at 9,400. Untold numbers have been held captive, like Walid Daqqah, until their death, by colonial governments worldwide for centuries.

The Venn diagram of "police states" & "colonial, genocidal regimes" is a circle. The global economy is the means by which all tyrants reinforce their cultures of oppression. By what means will we fight them & show up for the compas inside, worldwide?

Statement issued by the family of the prisoner Walid Daqqah:

To our people, the Palestinian people, our Arab nation, and the supporters of our cause worldwide,

Ten days have passed since the announcement by the occupation authorities, through the media and without any official notification to us until this moment, of the martyrdom of the prisoner Walid Daqqah at "Assaf Harofeh Hospital" in Ramla on April 7, 2024, after 38 years and 14 days of his captivity, despite the end of his actual sentence on March 24, 2023.

As we address you as the "family of the prisoner Walid Daqqah," we realize that Walid's journey continues regardless of how he is described, as a fighter, a prisoner, or a martyr. In all cases, Walid continues to provide us and the world with the highest examples of loyalty to the Palestinian cause, the cause of justice, freedom, and liberation, along with his brothers, comrades, and martyrs in the struggle, captivity, and martyrdom. His transition from one state to another, in the transformations of the body, will not change his stance, the compass of his heart, or the direction of his soul towards the eternal quest for freedom.

Today, Tuesday, April 16, 2024, "Adalah Center" has submitted, on behalf of the family of the prisoner Walid Daqqah, a petition to the "'israeli' Supreme Court" to compel the "'israeli' Prison Service" and the "'israeli' Police" to stop their violations, without any legal, constitutional, or jurisdictional basis, of the right to dignity for both the prisoner Walid Daqqah and his family, by continuing to detain his body indefinitely. The petition also noted that this violation crowns a series of ongoing racist violations against the prisoner Walid Daqqah throughout the long journey of his captivity, illness, after the announcement of his martyrdom, and even in the attack on the "Tent of Loyalty" and the intimidation of the family in front of their house.

As we celebrate with our people and our Palestinian prisoner movement the "Palestinian Prisoners Day," we declare that we have no illusions about the integration of racism in the institutions of the occupation state, but we renew our commitment to continue our struggle to liberate Walid, who did not waste a single moment in his life to liberate our past, present, and future from the occupation of land, humanity, and consciousness. We will continue our struggle as a family and through the "Free Walid Daqqah Campaign" to liberate him, complete his journey, reveal his works, and guard his words from distortion.

Our hearts and home are open to our faithful people and our loyal nation, and we specifically mention the hours from 7:30 to 10:00 PM to receive those who wish to fulfill the duty of loyalty. Our cry will remain the resounding cry of Walid Daqqah: "Free the martyr prisoners, free the prisoner martyrs," until the freedom of all prisoners.
